I have a 2001 1.9 TDI(115)Galaxy with what looks like the common Power loss issue I can see on the forum

The problem I have is that due to the volume of great information and detail on this issue I am slightly confused and not sure which way to go as they all seem to be valid - MAF,Turbo Vanes,MAP etc.

As Money is tight any advice on best guess or logical steps is appreciated.

Car is very sluggish and unresponsive when I accelerate, however when it does hit around 2500-3000 revs it does pick up which makes me think the Turbo might be fine.Flat out in 4th or 5th i am lucky if i can get it above 50 unless i drop to 3rd but it really appears to struggle.

It also appears to be worse when its cold outside.

Every blue moon it appears to run OK but never lasts long.

Changing the MAF is going to be the cheapest option - but first test it. Just unplug the MAF and see if the engine runs the same or worse. If worse then it's unlikely to be the fault - if no different then it probably is. You could also try turbo cleaner - one of those sprays you can buy from Halfrods etc around

Thanks for all the help,I've had a play and unpugging the MAF makes no difference at all so Im thinking of giving it a go and getting one.

Looking on Ebay there appear to be lots of aftermarket ones that are a lot cheaper. Some of the post say stay away but I wondering is it worth giving it a goto eliminate the issue rather than spend over
